Super Mario Bros.

There's really no competition for what should be my first game to review. It's my all-time favorite and I hope you don't pass me off as just another blogger who goes with the rest of the masses. It's one of the most iconic games of all-time, the Michael Jordan of games (ok so it actually came before MJ so maybe I should call it the Wilt Chamberlain of games. You probably don't even know who he is...and we are getting too far into sports), and may have single handedly saved the gaming industry after Atari, Inc.'s massive dump that was E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (review to come later). It is of course, Super Mario Bros.

The music is possibly the greatest music to ever grace a video game and is easily some of the most recognizable. What really makes it a great game for me is how hard a simple game like Mario can be. I mean all you do is run, jump, and spit fireballs. How hard could that be? Well...very. It's like trying to parkour your way through a gauntlet of mutant turtles (no not those mutant turtles) and mushrooms (no not those mushrooms). But have no fear! This game has secret warp tunnels and extra lives to help the less talented (clears throat) get further than level 3. What more could you ask for? Everything about it just works. Yes it doesn't have graphics to compete with today's games, but it doesn't need them. Sometimes games try too hard with graphics and the overall game suffers.  Seems like they're overcompensating for something if you ask me.  Yeah I said it, what up.

I love everything about this game. The one issue that probably ruins it for a lot of people is the collision detection. I don't know how many times I've gotten stuck in a block unable to move or have died because I barely hit the edge of a block above me and when straight down into a goober. But despite those issues I still give this game an obvious Gamegasm and a Buy Now.
